Galaxy Watch alternative for 65 euros: Samsung introduces Galaxy Fit3

• With the Galaxy Fit3, Samsung is releasing a fitness tracker again after four years.
• However, the device looks like a smartwatch and also offers many Galaxy Watch functions.
• At 65 euros, however, it is significantly cheaper than the South Korean manufacturer’s smartwatches.

Officially, the Galaxy Fit3 from Samsung is a fitness tracker that is visually and functionally reminiscent of the 65-euro wearable, but more like a smartwatch. It only has little in common with its predecessor, the Galaxy Fit2, which was released four years ago. This is already clear from the display.

This measures 1.6 inches and is, according to Samsung, around 45 percent wider than the Galaxy Fit2. The screen of the Galaxy Fit3 is therefore larger than that of all current Galaxy Watch models, which have a maximum of 1.5 inches and are also round and not rectangular like the Fit3.

Fitness tracker with smartwatch functions

As is usual for a fitness tracker, the Galaxy Fit3 can measure your pulse and blood oxygen level, count your steps, track your sleep and record over 100 types of training. The other features bring the tracker closer to a smartwatch: The Galaxy Fit3 offers snoring and fall detection. In the event of a fall, an emergency call can also be made.

You can also use the Galaxy Fit3 to control the music on your phone, the camera on the connected smartphone, and view incoming notifications. With over 100 watch faces to choose from, the tracker can also be visually customized to your liking. Compared to the Galaxy Watch series, the only thing missing is the ability to measure body composition and perform an ECG. Furthermore, you cannot pay with the Galaxy Fit3 and you cannot install any apps on the tracker. There is also no GPS module. If you have your phone with you, the tracker can use its GPS.

Price and availability

The price is low. While Samsung charges 219 euros for the cheapest Galaxy Watch, the GalaxyFit3 costs just 65 euros. It is available online from 54 euros – for example at Proshop.

The Galaxy Fit3 can be used with Android phones that have at least Android 10.0 and 1.5 gigabytes of RAM. You also need a free Samsung account. Some functions, such as camera control, can only be used with newer Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
