Peter Shilton is celebrating his 75th birthday. The English record international player has had a similar career to his predecessor, World Cup keeper Gordon Banks – and yet Shilton’s career was very different.

Harry Kane has been part of an illustrious group since last week. At least 100 international matches for England – this mark had previously only been achieved by nine other professionals. But the Bayern star will have to play for a few more years if he is to break the record of the man who wore the Three Lions’ shirt exactly 125 times between 1970 and 1990, who celebrates his 75th birthday this Wednesday and who probably achieved the greatest victory of his career: Peter Shilton.
