Camila Giorgi’s crime novel has a new chapter

At the beginning of May, on the 7th to be precise, it was all over. Camila Giorgi quietly and secretly put her work equipment in the corner and later disappeared completely from the public eye. The sudden disappearance fed a lot of speculation, after all, the former number 26 in the world rankings would have had to face several questions from the Italian judiciary in her home country. The list of topics is varied: tax evasion, forged vaccination certificates, rent arrears, theft.

Rent arrears (100,000 euros) and theft date back to the time when the four-time tournament winner and her family (especially her domineering father and trainer Sergio) stayed in a villa in Calenzano and left it half-empty from one day to the next. In terms of tax evasion, the Italian tax office issued an enforcement order for Giorgi’s prize money of 446,000 euros. However, the withdrawal prevents the money from being transferred from the tournament organizers to the tax office. Giorgi, who runs her own fashion label “Giomila”, had already been summoned there for April 13, but she let the deadline pass.

At the beginning of June, Giorgi’s lawyer Edmondo Tomasellito announced that the 32-year-old would return to Italy and provide information to the relevant authorities. Now, almost three and a half months later, her legal representative has spoken out again and explained: “Camila Giorgi is in Rome.” In recent months, she has travelled a lot for work. In short, there can be no talk of her running away, as some have claimed.” The claim that she disappeared is also nonsense – Giorgi spent some time in the USA and then returned to Italy to devote himself to work projects. Such as a modeling job currently in Rome.

The Italian can stay there, as she has a court date on November 5th. The accusation that Giorgi falsified several corona tests during the corona pandemic in order to obtain the green passport required for international travel will be heard. What will happen to the former tennis ace after that is unclear. But it is quite possible that her former landlord from Calenzano will also take a seat among the spectators in the courtroom.
