FedEx driver allegedly shot dogs while delivering a shipment

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) – An Ohio couple couldn’t believe it when they heard gunshots outside their home while a FedEx driver was making a delivery.

According to police, the driver admitted to firing the gun while at work out of fear for his life.

CJ Perry had just walked into her house after a work meeting when she heard what she thought were gunshots.

When she looked out the window, she saw a FedEx delivery driver in front of her neighbor’s house taking a photo of his delivery, and nothing seemed unusual.

But Perry’s ears did not deceive her. When her roommate asked her what was going on, she realized that she had indeed heard gunshots.

“I looked out the window and there was a group of police officers standing in front of the house next door,” Perry said.

According to Port Clinton police, the FedEx driver said he was delivering packages when a neighbor’s two German Shepherds ran out of the house toward him.

The FedEx driver shot one of the dogs and both ran back into the house.

Police said no one was injured and the dogs were fine.

During their investigation, officers found two bullet casings. Perry said she believes one of the bullets ricocheted off the sidewalk and hit her car.

Perry and her husband said they were frustrated but glad that only their truck was hit.

“You know, it could have hit the house, it could have hit my wife, it could have hit anyone, really, and then there’s the irresponsibility of that FedEx driver,” Devon said.

According to police, the driver was carrying two magazines and a Glock 23 on his hip. The driver was released from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

No charges have been filed so far.

“Safety is our highest priority and we have fully cooperated with law enforcement in the investigation. The individual involved is no longer providing services on behalf of FedEx,” a FedEx representative said in a statement.
