Damper! Few citizens consider CDU leader Merz to be a suitable candidate for chancellor

If you ask German citizens which top politicians they think would be best suited to the office of Federal Chancellor, SPD Defense Minister Boris Pistorius comes first with 30 percent. CDU leader Friedrich Merz, on the other hand, comes in third place.

CSU leader Markus Söder is ahead of Merz with 22 percent – according to the RTL/ntv trend barometer, only 19 percent of respondents are in favor of the newly elected CDU candidate for chancellor, Merz.

18 percent consider Robert Habeck suitable and only 9 percent consider the incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Of the Union’s supporters, 47 percent consider Friedrich Merz to be the most suitable politician for the office of Chancellor, 41 percent (also) Markus Söder and 24 percent Boris Pistorius. Among the SPD supporters, Boris Pistorius (54%) is most often considered “suitable for Chancellor”, only 32 percent say this of Olaf Scholz
