Josh Gad regrets using his own voice for Frozen’ Olaf

Josh Gad regrets using his own voice for Olaf in Frozen.

The 43-year-old actor voices the lovable snowman in the Disney franchise, but he wishes he had come up with a different accent for the character because his own voice is so recognizable that he can’t escape Frozen fans.

In a clip shared on TikTok, he said at Fan Expo Canada this month: “If I could do it all again… I wouldn’t have voiced that snowman. I would have created a different voice.”

About his encounters with the young fans of the films, he said: “It is very strange to be in a supermarket and hear a small child say that [turns head slowly].

“That was my first big mistake. I try to give it to them when I can.”

Gad portrayed Olaf in the 2013 animated blockbuster and its 2019 sequel.

Olaf was almost cut from the film.

Frozen Co-director Jennifer Lee recalled seeing the first cuts of the film and her “first” feedback was, “Kill the snowman.”

Nevertheless, Gad managed to convince the filmmaker with his portrayal of the hilarious snowman that Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) created in their childhood.

The 2013 film quickly became a franchise that sold millions of copies; the first film grossed more than $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office.

The 2019 sequel was even more successful, grossing $1.450 billion.

Frozen 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 24, 2027.
