Munich becomes digital centre for defence industry

The Digital Hub for Security and Defense, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Economics, is coming to Munich. The Bavarian capital prevailed in the tendering process, as the Bavarian Ministry of Economics announced. This is the third time that Munich has been selected for the federal government’s Digital Hub initiative. There are already centers for mobility and insurance technology (InsurTech) here.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs had already announced in April that it would expand the Digital Hub initiative to include four to six additional centers. It has existed since 2017 and is intended to bring start-ups and established businesses together at locations chosen as the hub.

“Bavaria is the right choice for the new digital hub,” said State Minister for Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters). “Here is the perfect ecosystem for the security and defense industry. After all, around a third of all German defense companies are based in Bavaria. Digital start-ups from this sector also find the best conditions here to network with industry, develop their business model and grow.” The state government will provide the best possible support to the Bavarian consortium of science and industry that won the contract.
