Sensormatic Solutions, the leading global retail solutions portfolio of Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), today released its forecasts for the top-selling shopping days of the 2024 holiday season in the United States and globally. The forecasted peak days for the United States are Black Friday (November 29), Super Saturday (December 21) and the Monday before Christmas (December 23). Each year, Sensormatic Solutions’ Retail Traffic Advisory and Analytics group forecasts the top-selling shopping days worldwide using historical holiday traffic data from its ShopperTrak Analytics solution.

“The period from Black Friday through New Year’s is critical for retailers, and each year presents a unique opportunity to optimize strategies and delight customers in-store,” said Tony D’Onofrio, President of Sensormatic Solutions. “As the season comes to a close, ‘success’ isn’t just about increasing sales; it’s also about building brand loyalty, attracting new customers, and setting the tone for the year ahead. Our customer traffic forecasts provide a valuable roadmap for the season, and the ability to adapt and respond to holiday shopping trends can make the difference between a good year and a great year for retailers.”

In the United States, the 10 busiest shopping days account for approximately 30-40% of all holiday traffic. Sensormatic Solutions predicts that customer traffic in U.S. stores will remain relatively stable, declining no more than -3% year-over-year. So far, customer traffic has declined an average of -2.6% compared to 2023.

“Reviewing historical customer traffic data is critical for retailers to optimally plan staffing, inventory and promotions during the peak days of the 2024 holiday season,” said Grant Gustafson, head of retail consulting and analytics at Sensormatic Solutions, whose team predicts the season’s busiest sales days. “Physical stores will continue to play a critical role this holiday season by providing inspiration and convenience. While we see no evidence of significant risk to the expected flat customer traffic, we expect the shortened holiday season to impact overall shopping visits as consumers will have fewer opportunities to shop. By leveraging customer traffic data, retailers can tailor their offerings and create memorable experiences that meet their customers’ expectations, such as personalized promotions and optimized store layouts.”
