Brandoville Studios faces legal action over labor rights violations and abuse allegations

Jakarta. Brandoville Studios, an animation company based in Menteng, Central Jakarta, is under serious legal scrutiny after investigations uncovered serious labor law violations and abuses. Authorities are currently searching for the Hong Kong national and head of the studio as they continue their investigation into these allegations.

The studio, which also has an office in Hong Kong, has been involved in several high-profile projects, including AAA video games such as NBA2K17, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Dark Souls III, The Last of Us, StarCraft: Remastered, Mortal KombatAnd Uncharted.

Hari Nugroho, head of the Jakarta Provincial Labor, Immigration and Energy Office, confirmed the findings during a press conference on Tuesday. “The company was found to have committed labor-related crimes,” Hari said during a visit to the studio’s office on Tuesday.

The investigation found that Brandoville Studios had failed to compensate its employees for overtime and had failed to report the additional branch. “We will work with the police to address these violations,” Hari added.

Police are currently searching for Cherry Lai, the head of Brandoville Studios. Muhammad Firdaus, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, indicated that Lai is one of the main suspects in the case. “We are still looking for Lai and will interrogate her once we find her,” said Muhammad Firdaus.

The allegations against Brandoville Studios gained widespread attention after a former employee named CS shared her harrowing experiences on social media. CS reported severe abuse, including excessive working hours, threats, and physical punishment. She claimed that after she suffered a miscarriage, she was further punished by being forced to perform degrading activities.

Further investigations are currently underway and police are currently interviewing additional witnesses, including former employees of Brandoville Studios, to gather more evidence of the company’s labor law violations.
