Measures against dangerous driving lead to 270 charges against the Road Traffic Act

Police seized five vehicles and issued 270 traffic violation charges over the weekend as they again targeted a Mississauga square where numerous residents had complained of dangerous driving.

According to police, officers conducted “strategic enforcement operations” in the area around Ridgeway Plaza on the second weekend of this month.

Uniformed officers from the 11th Division and law enforcement officers were involved in the investigation.

The Peel Regional Police Air Support Unit also provided assistance.

As a result of the initiative, a total of 270 charges were brought under the Highway Traffic Act, including 22 for reckless driving and street racing.

According to police, officers also confiscated five vehicles, recovered a stolen vehicle and revoked driving licenses in four cases.

In addition, a total of six criminal charges were filed.

“Peel Regional Police continue to remind drivers that there is no excuse and street racing, stunting, excessive speed or unnecessary noise from vehicles will not be tolerated,” a news release said. “Aside from the penalties, this behavior puts everyone on our roads at risk. We will continue to deploy officers to identify, locate and actively enforce traffic laws in Peel Region.”
