Coroner summons 13 police officers involved in fatal shooting | News

Forensic pathologist Kara Turnquest-Deveaux has summoned 13 police officers who were found guilty of manslaughter by the inquest. They are to appear before her on Wednesday.

The summons are intended to correct an oversight by the coroner, who failed to inform the officers that they would be referred to the Supreme Court under the Coroner’s Act upon sentencing.

One of the officers, Inspector Aaron Wilson, was involved in three police-involved shootings.

After the officers are surrendered, they will be granted bail and the Attorney General will decide whether to put the officers on trial.

The officers were due to appear before the investigating judge yesterday. However, none of them showed up, prompting Turnquest-Deveaux to issue arrest warrants for them.

However, Turnquest-Deveaux lifted the arrest warrants after attorney K. Melvin Munroe, who represents several of the officers involved, said his clients had not received the subpoenas.

The matter was adjourned until Wednesday, 11 a.m.
