Werder only signed Köhn on Deadline Day

Just 125 seconds before the golden goal, Köhn was sent onto the field by Werner on Sunday evening for his first ever Bundesliga appearance. A “goosebumps” moment, as Köhn said after Bremen’s first win of the season. The Hanseatic club had only secured the services of the 25-year-old at the end of August on the deadline day of the transfer window. The Hamburg native came on loan from Galatasaray Istanbul – and without any Bundesliga experience. The Turkish capital club, in turn, had only poached Köhn from second division club Hannover 96 in February, and caused a lot of trouble there because of the deal.

Hannover 96 is waiting for partial payment from Köhn

Until recently, the Lower Saxony club was waiting for part of the four million Euro transfer fee for their former players – and even took legal action. Will Köhn’s return to Germany finally fill Hannover’s coffers? Werder has a purchase option for a good five million Euros next summer.

Bremen welcomes league leader Bayern Munich on Saturday

For Köhn himself, the disputes after his dream debut are probably of secondary importance. “It’s very, very nice to make a debut like that,” he said happily. Next Saturday (3:30 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de) offers a good opportunity to build on that. League leaders Bayern Munich will be visiting the Weserstadion.

The game is definitely a special one for Köhn. From 2017 to 2020, he played for Munich’s second team. “We want to put in a good game,” said the winger, adding confidently that they also want to go for three points against Bayern.
