Blind date for two a cappella choirs

Blind date for two a cappella choirs

When Martina Furchert, chairwoman of the Steinfurt Cultural Association, recently introduced the Total Tonal choir to the audience at its concert in the Huck-Beifang-Haus, she said that it had been quite difficult to find the a cappella ensemble from Borghorst on the Internet. “That’s right,” the singers admitted. Because anyone who goes to the homepage www.totaltonal.de is greeted by a choir of the same name from Hamburg-Eidelstedt, made up of around 30 people. And that is exactly what you can now experience in a concert with Total Tonal from Borghorst. On Saturday (21 September) at 7.30 p.m. the ensembles want to enchant the audience in the Friedenskapelle in Münster under the motto “Total Tonal²”.

Inquiry from Hamburg

The singers will experience a blind date. Because the choirs have never met before. As with an online dating service, they first made contact via the Internet. In 2017, he learned of the existence of another choir called Total Tonal through the program “The Best Choir in the West,” says Hajo Wiethoff from the Hamburg choir. “I thought that the ages and repertoires of our two choirs had a good overlap and I sent in an inquiry.” The Borghorsters took note of this inquiry with interest. “We had a few concerts coming up at the time. “We didn’t follow up on this lead any further,” remembers choir director Jörg Hilpert. But they haven’t forgotten about it. Now there is finally a joint concert. The repertoires of the two a cappella choirs – pop, jazz, musical, gospel, rock – go together very well musically.

Tickets are available at www.friedenskapelle.ms and at the box office. And Total Tonal from Borghorst can be found online at: meinchor.de/totaltonal-muenster
