Almost everyone in Hamburg knows the street magazine “Hinz&Kunzt”: For more than 30 years, homeless people have been selling the magazine in front of supermarkets all over the city. Starting today, a second street magazine is being published: “Hinz&Kids” is for children.

Homeless people are visible on Hamburg’s streets, which is why children are also concerned with the issue of homelessness, says “Hinz&Kunzt” managing director Jörn Sturm. “They want to know how it happens and what can actually be done about it.” The “little Hamburg street magazine”, as the subtitle of “Hinz&Kids” is, wants to provide answers with the new issue.

“The stories are told differently, but they are the same stories,” says Sturm. “They are told very much in the context of children’s lives and we introduce a new protagonist, Ricky the dog.” Ricky accompanies the young readers through the booklet and explains in a child-friendly way, for example, what a container home is.

1.50 euros per issue goes to the seller

The magazine is aimed at primary school children and, in addition to stories about life on the street, also offers puzzle pages and tips for excursions. “Hinz&Kids” will initially be published every two months with a circulation of 12,000 copies. The magazine costs 2.50 euros, of which the seller keeps 1.50 euros.
