Sports app uses live activity to report the latest results

Apple’s latest update to the Sports app adds scores as a live activity, allowing sports fans to see results at a glance on their iPhone’s display.

Apple Sports allows users to see live scores and updates from games of their favorite teams and sports right on their iPhone. With the latest update, users can see sports updates without having to open the app.

Monday’s version 2.0 update brings several changes to the app, the biggest of which is support for live action. When enabled, users will be able to see live scores and match updates on their iPhone’s lock screen or on Apple Watch.

The update requires iOS 18 and watchOS 11 for updates to appear as live activities.

The app also introduces a new dropdown menu that allows users to quickly switch between leagues. It also leads to a new search page that displays all the available leagues for a user to check.

Apple also adds some optimizations aimed at the WNBA and MLB playoffs, while also covering the MLS and Liga MX champions battling for the Campeones Cup.

Sports is a free app available on the App Store and requires iOS 17.2 or later.
