Iga Świątek will not play in Seoul

When the reason given for a player’s withdrawal from a tournament is “change of schedule”, you quickly want to shout out loud: “No kidding!” Because of course a cancellation changes your personal schedule. As was the case with Iga Swiatek, who will not be playing in Seoul after all. It’s unfortunate for the organizers. But nothing new for Świątek: ask in Berlin, where the Pole has not played at very short notice for two years in a row.

Before the world number one, defending champions Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina had already cancelled their participation in Seoul. Pegula reached the final of the US Open a few days ago (with a semi-final victory against Swiatek), but Rybakina seems to be struggling with serious physical problems.

Raducanu with difficult opening draw

And so Daria Kasatkina leads the seeding list ahead of Liudmilla Samsonova, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Diana Shnaider. Emma Raducanu is also part of the party and will have to compete against the increasingly strong Peyton Stearns right from the start.

Li Na, on the other hand, is a little back in the tennis circus. The former world number two and two-time winner of a Grand Slam tournament will be the tournament director of the WTA Tour 250 event in Hong Kong, which begins on October 26th.
