Volunteering in sport – Leonding judo coach awarded as district winner

Volunteering in sport – Leonding judo coach awarded as district winner

LEONDING/OÖ. Tips, Sportland Oberösterreich, OÖNachrichten, Life Radio and TV1 were again looking for the many volunteers in Upper Austria’s sports clubs today. The winners were awarded at the closing ceremony in the Linz Olympic Forum. In Linz-Land, judo coach Martin Stump was able to secure the district victory.

Around 200,000 people are involved in voluntary work in Upper Austria. For the fifth time, these people have been brought to the fore as part of the “Thank you” vote and honored for their work and commitment. “In the Tips, we want to motivate, focus on the positive and on working together, because working together well can overcome divides.” “The meetings in the clubs are valuable, and it is important to experience and share emotions,” emphasizes Tips editor-in-chief Alexandra Mittermayr.

A total of 183,846 votes were cast for the 88 nominees on Tips.at and nachrichten.at. Gino Cuturi, Managing Partner at Medienhaus Wimmer, praised: “Without volunteers, many things in Upper Austria would not exist. Volunteering in sport and culture brings society together and we present that in the media.” State Councilor Markus Achleitner is also pleased: “Volunteers are the good soul of sport and offer great stories. With this award, clubs can finally say thank you.”

Judo coach Martin Stump named district champion

Martin Stump from ASKÖ Fairdrive Leonding can be happy about the district victory in Linz-Land. Judo is Stump’s life. Always active on the mat – previously as an athlete himself, now as a trainer, referee and board member of the Austrian Judo Association – he lives and conveys the judo values.

Stump is the proud holder of the 6th DAN, the highest black belt that can be obtained through an examination. His experience as a former competitive athlete makes him the ideal teacher: Stump challenges and motivates young judoka to get the best out of them. The district winners were each rewarded with 1,000 euros and a trophy and a certificate.

State victory goes to youth leader from Schärding

From the 16 district winners, Manfred “Fredy” Karl Rigler, youth leader of SK Schärding, was chosen as the state winner. He can look forward to an additional prize money of 1,000 euros.
