DJI launches 10,000-euro bike on the market

DJI has announced the prices and market launch of its new and first e-bike. The new motor and wheels were already presented at the Eurobike and were the outstanding surprise of the trade fair. This means that a new competitor is forming for Bosch, Mahle, Fazua, Brose, Yamaha and Co. and is also targeting high-end e-bike manufacturers.

Premium e-bike with more powerful features

The heart of the new e-bikes from DJI’s Amflow brand is the drive system, which houses two battery sizes and a motor. With the Pro model, you can choose between the large 800 Wh and the small 600 Wh battery. The motor delivers a whopping 105 Nm and a peak output of a whopping 850 watts. Its continuous output is limited to 250 watts.

The frame can accommodate 27.5 and 29 inch wheels at the rear. A special mount can be adjusted accordingly. It is made of carbon and weighs a slim 2.27 kg. The attachments are all taken from the shelves of industry giants.

The hydraulic disc brakes come from Magura. The MT5 and MT7 Pro each have 4 piston brakes. The shock absorbers come from Fox’s Performance and Factory series. The fork is also from both Fox series. DJI uses SRAM components for the gears.

The first impression of the DJI Amflow PL Carbon

At Eurobike 2024, we were able to get a first impression of the Amflow PL Carbon and talk to Olivier Mondon, Communications Manager at DJI Europe. For him, it is clear that DJI is on the path to becoming an e-bike system supplier. The motors are one of DJI’s core competencies and building them a little larger is no problem. Many other developments from drone construction could also be transferred to the e-bike system. Sensor technology for position and dynamics is very similar and the battery control and components could be adapted with little effort.

You can tell that DJI is serious about entering the e-bike market when you first come into contact with the bikes. The workmanship of the exhibition bikes was excellent, the quality was high. DJI Amflow also paid attention to the details. For example, the display for showing support modes etc. is made using OLED technology and is razor-sharp and very easy to read. Here, the company is already a little ahead of the e-bike industry and is gaining points with its own technology and know-how.

Price and availability

The Amflow PL Carbon (800 Wh), Amflow PL Carbon Pro (800 Wh) and Amflow PL Carbon Pro (600 Wh) models will be available in Germany from October and cost 9,999 euros, 9,799 euros and 6,499 euros respectively. This confirms fears that the high-end equipment also has a significant impact on the price. Nevertheless, the models could be worth a closer look for demanding users.
