The latest assassination attempt on Trump is reminiscent of previous assassination attempts on US politicians

The FBI is investigating another assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach in Florida, where former President Trump was playing golf.

Police officials said the Secret Service saw a man with a rifle in the bushes and fired at the suspected attacker.

The suspect fled from the bushes and was later arrested on a highway, according to police.

PREVIOUS ATTEMPT AGAINST TRUMP

In July, Trump was shot by a gunman during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The FBI called it an attempted murder. The former president suffered an ear injury.

According to the Congressional Research Service, there have been direct attacks on presidents, presidents-elect and candidates on at least 15 separate occasions, five of which resulted in death.

Below is a list of previous attempts on the lives of American heads of state, whether successful or not.

Assassinations

Four US presidents were assassinated during their term in office.

Abraham Lincoln: Killed in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater in Washington.

James Garfield: Was shot at a train station in Washington in 1881 and died of his injuries two and a half months later.

William McKinley: Assassinated by an anarchist in Buffalo, New York, in 1901.

John F. Kennedy: Assassinated in 1963 in Dallas, Texas, by Lee Harvey Oswald while the president was riding in a motorcade.

LEADERS WHO SURVIVED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Four presidents were injured during or after their term in office but survived assassination attempts.

Donald Trump: Trump had just begun a campaign speech in Pennsylvania on July 13 when shots were fired. Trump was shot in the ear. Security officials took him into a black SUV.

Ronald Reagan: He was shot outside the Hilton Hotel in Washington in 1981. Reagan was injured when one of the bullets ricocheted off a limousine and hit him under the left armpit.

President Gerald Ford: Survived two assassination attempts in less than three weeks in 1975 without being injured.

Theodore Roosevelt: He was shot in the chest during the campaign in Milwaukee in 1912, but insisted on giving his speech to his supporters before being taken to a hospital.

Assassination attempts on other US heads of state and government

Robert F. Kennedy: Kennedy, US presidential candidate and US Senator, was assassinated by a gunman in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1968.

Alabama Governor George C. Wallace: As a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, he was shot in 1972 and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since.
