“Independence Day” director plans remake of one of the best adventure films of all time – with changes to the epic masterpiece – Series News

The successful German director Roland Emmerich has long dreamed of a new adaptation of the cinema classic “Lawrence of Arabia”. Now this project is to become a reality. As the filmmaker, still known primarily for his disaster blockbusters such as “Independence Day”, “The Day After Tomorrow” or “2012”, tells the Hollywood Reporters revealed, He has worked with “Bohemian Rhapsody” author Anthony McCarten developed a corresponding project. This title will be available for purchase to partners over the next month.

“Lawrence of Arabia” as a series with 3 seasons and a new title

The project is likely to be presented to all TV channels and streaming services, as Emmerich’s version of “Lawrence” is to become a series. He and McCarten have drawn up a plan for three seasons.

It will not be the only change compared to the original. Instead of “Lawrence Of Arabia”, the original title of David Lean’s mega-classic, The new series “Lawrence in Arabia“, also called “Lawrence in Arabia” here. Emmerich explains the new title by saying that her series project has more characters than the original film. The focus will probably not just be on Lawrence.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that such a project has made the rounds. Back in 2016, “Sons Of Anarchy” producers Art Linson and John Linson planned a similar series for HBO. However, their starting point was not the original film classic, but the non-fiction book “Lawrence In Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly And The Making Of The Modern Middle East”, which was published in 2014. Incidentally, four-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter Anthony McCarten was already involved back then.

The epic won seven Oscars – including, of course, the golden boy for best film. “Lawrence of Arabia” regularly appears in lists of the greatest classics and best films of all time.

Roland Emmerich’s second series – but it’s not over yet!

For long-time cinema director Roland Emmerich, “Lawrence In Arabia” is already the second series. Most recently, he made the gladiator story “Those About To Die”, which is available in Germany on Amazon Prime Video and is set to be continued. In a second season, however, Emmerich says he will take on a smaller role so that he can devote himself to “Lawrence In Arabia”.

Anyone who thinks that the former blockbuster specialist has completely switched to the small screen for his latest works after some disappointing box office figures is mistaken. Emmerich will continue to make feature films and will work on two projects:
