The Rapid Rail train is designed to improve intercity connectivity and is expected to cover the 359-km route between Bhuj and Ahmedabad in 5 hours and 45 minutes. There will be stopovers at nine stations along the route.

Regular service will be made available to the public in Ahmedabad from September 17.

The cost of the entire journey is expected to be 455 rupees.

According to a spokesperson, the Ministry of Railways has announced that the Vande Metro will be renamed Namo Bharat Rapid Rail.

Unlike other metros that cover shorter distances, Namo Bharat will connect central Ahmedabad with nearby cities, the ministry said.

The Rapid Rail, which has 12 coaches and 1,150 seats, comes with numerous modern features. According to officials, it includes ergonomically designed seats, fully air-conditioned cabins and modular interiors, making it a more advanced option compared to other metro trains.

“The train enables faster journeys between medium-distance cities. Its rapid acceleration and deceleration contribute to efficient travel, while the driver cabins at both ends eliminate turnaround times,” it added.
