FC Bayern | Extension with Jamal Musiala? Eberl: “It’s difficult”

FC Bayern will make Jamal Musiala the figurehead of the club in the coming years. But the attacking player’s contract only runs until summer 2026. Sports director Max Eberl is preparing for tough negotiations.

“It’s difficult, but it’s not impossible – because Jamal knows what he has at Bayern. He grew up here, he earned his first merits, he brought himself to this level,” said the 50-year-old on Sunday in the “Doppelpass” on “Sport1”.

It is “no secret” that they would like to keep Musiala for a long time, said Eberl. But now the talks are finally being “intensified”, he announced.

For FC Bayern, an extension would mean that they would have to pay Musiala significantly more money in the future. Currently, the national player is only supposed to earn around nine million euros a year.

The record champions would probably have to adjust the youngster’s salary in the direction of the top earners in the course of a new contract. Harry Kanne is currently said to be at the top of the internal rankings with 25 million euros per season.

FC Bayern will also extend Kimmich’s contract

But how does a pay rise for Musiala fit in with the self-imposed austerity measures in Munich? Eberl explained: “Of course we will have to continue to reduce the number of players in the top tier. But perhaps not so much in the breadth of the squad.”

However, they do not want to include an exit clause in Musiala’s contract, explained Eberl. “That would be very unusual for Bayern Munich. Bayern is already a very big club,” said the ex-Gladbach player.

Even more important than the financial dimension for Musiala is the sporting perspective. His declared goal is to win the Ballon d’Or at some point.

Eberl promised that FC Bayern would provide the stage for this. “We as a club are extremely ambitious. He knows that, he wants to win titles,” said Eberl.

In addition to Musiala, Joshua Kimmich is also expected to stay with the club. “We have made it clear to him that he should become the face of Bayern Munich. We will seek an extension. We have to talk about money. But Joshua feels very comfortable in Munich,” said Eberl.
