Production of the movie Watch Dogs is finally complete

After rumors began swirling over a decade ago, filming on the live-action Watch Dogs action movie has finally wrapped, just in time for the franchise to largely fade from cultural memory and certainly stop growing in popularity.

The news came officially via Ubisoft’s X-Profile:

I’m a little excited for the film and the world of video games as a whole as Watch Dogs is a title that could actually work as adapted material. Hopefully they can expand on the IP in a meaningful way and not fall into generic hacker/heist movie territory, it needs to meaningfully feel like a Watch Dogs movie.

Here, too, there is a certain amount of skepticism, as the film just closed with $31 million at the box office, barely covering the marketing costs, let alone the production budget.

At the end of the day, we’re hoping for the best for the Watch Dogs movie, directed by Mathieu Turi and starring Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) and Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Thanks, PC Gamer.
