Canada and Netherlands complete final tournament

Canada confidently kept host Great Britain at bay in a direct duel in Manchester and secured group victory ahead of Argentina. The Netherlands secured second place in the Bologna group behind the host thanks to the Wesley Koolhof/Botic van de Zandschulp double against Italy late on Sunday evening, leaving Brazil and Belgium just behind. The best two of each of the four groups of four will take part in the final event (19 to 24 November), which will be played in a knockout system.

Germany qualified in Zhuhai, China, without its best singles players Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff, with clear victories over Slovakia and Chile. Finally, on Saturday, it suffered a defeat against the USA, which thus secured its group victory. Spain and Australia will also be represented at the final tournament of the best eight nations on the Costa del Sol in just over two months.

In the quarter-finals, which will be drawn next Thursday, Germany will face a winner from the other three preliminary groups, i.e. Italy with world number one Jannik Sinner, Spain with Carlos Alcaraz or Canada. Germany has won the Davis Cup three times so far, the last triumph was 31 years ago.
