Felix Auger-Aliassime

The score was 2:0 after Denis Shapovalov’s victories against Dan Evans (6:0, 7:5) and Felix Auger-Aliassime’s victories against Jack Draper (7:6 (8), 7:5) – but the matter was already clear after Shapovalov’s victory. The British would have needed a 3:0 win to advance. The disappointment at the home game in Manchester was accordingly great.

Canada has secured first place in Group D, ahead of Argentina. Great Britain and Finland, in third and fourth place, are out of the fight for the finals in Malaga.

In Group C the first placed teams were USA and Germany, in Group B Australia and Spain advanced.

In Group A, however, it was exciting right up until the end of the evening. Italy had already secured victory over the Netherlands after the singles (and had already finished first in the group anyway). Second place is still up for grabs for Brazil and the Netherlands. The Netherlands needed at least one point, which the combination of Koolhof/van de Zandschulp got with a 7:6 (6), 7:5 win over Bolelli/Vavassori.

The Davis Cup finals are scheduled for November 19-24, 2024 in Malaga.
