Two teenagers killed in car crash near Consort, Alta.

Two teenagers were killed in a car crash near Consort, Alabama, early Sunday morning, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Coronation.

In a news release, the Mounties said they responded to a 911 call at 1:06 a.m. following an incident involving a truck on Township Road 353 near Consort, about 200 kilometers east of Red Deer.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that seven juvenile occupants of the truck had sustained various injuries and two people had died. Preliminary investigations indicate that alcohol played a role, the press release said.

The victims are a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, an RCMP spokesperson told CBC News.

The RCMP says the investigation is ongoing and an update is expected at a later date.

“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Coronation would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of these individuals. This is a great loss for the family and the entire community,” the press release said.
