Floods 2024: Current situation, pictures and videos of the floods in Upper Austria

Flood 2024: The water levels are falling – at least for now. Because it will probably rain until Tuesday.

Upper Austria. After some dramatic increases in water levels in recent days, a first trend reversal may now have been reached: Most of the measuring stations in Upper Austria are reporting falling water levels. The highest level at the Mauthausen/Donau gauge was reached at 678 centimeters, while the highest level at the Grein/Donau gauge will not be reached until tonight at around 1100 centimeters. The further forecast from the Hydrographic Service of Upper Austria is as follows:

“According to meteorologists, the rainfall will become more intense again tomorrow.” From Monday afternoon, similar increases to today are to be expected again. Along the Inn, Traun and Enns, this could even lead to higher increases than recently due to the alpine catchment area. Local flooding is also possible everywhere on small and medium-sized bodies of water, depending on the intensity of the rainfall.”

Governor Stelzer: “Stay cautious!”

“We have also suffered severe damage in some areas, and the emergency services have been working practically around the clock since Friday – I would like to express my sincere thanks for that,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer in a press release on Sunday: “We will pull out all the stops to help those who have been badly hit by the storm. And even though there are currently positive signals from the experts, I would like to stress: Please continue to be cautious, heed the warnings and avoid unnecessary journeys.”

Power plants run “without major problems”

The energy company, however, reports that “plant operation is without major problems.” The Lambach, Marchtrenk and Traun-Pucking power plants were lowered by up to 6 m. “At the plants in Salzburg, there is only an increased water flow due to the lower rainfall intensity and the catchment area, but no flooding situation.” “So far, no major problems have occurred with plant operation,” says the state energy supplier.
