Donald Trump and Taylor Swift

Donald Trump can’t seem to shake his feelings for Taylor Swift.

On Sunday, September 15, the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate published a post on his social media platform Truth Social responding to Swift’s support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Trump wrote in a post.

Donald Trump

Swift, 34, officially endorsed Harris, 59, for the presidential race on Instagram on Tuesday, September 10. The move came shortly after Harris and Trump concluded their first debate.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” the singer began the caption of her post, which included a photo of herself holding a cat. “If you haven’t already, now is a great time to educate yourself on the issues at hand and these candidates’ stances on the issues that matter most to you. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can find about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

After denouncing the fake AI images that Trump’s campaign used of her to feign an endorsement, Swift continued, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a fighter to represent them.”

She then called Harris “a calm, gifted leader,” adding, “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country when we are led by calm, not chaos.” She also praised Harris’ running mate Tim Walz for “advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”

Swift continued, “I’ve done my research and made my choice. Your research is entirely up to you, and the decision is yours. I want to say to first-time voters in particular: remember you have to be registered to vote! I also find it much easier to vote early. In my story, I’ll post links to where to register and dates and information on early voting.”

The pop star ended her statement with the remark “Childless cat lady,” a reference to unfavorable comments made by Trump’s 2021 running mate JD Vance.

Taylor Swift and Kamala Harris

Trump responded to Swift’s support the following day in an interview with Fox & Friends.

“I wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan,” he said on the show. “It was just a matter of time. … But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for that in the marketplace.”

A few days later, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) put up a series of humorous campaign posters in New York City and Las Vegas with the slogan “We are in our Kamala Era” – a reference to Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour”.

The billboards use Swift’s hit “…Ready for It” from her 2017 Call Album with the caption “A new way forward… Ready for it?”.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to use Swift’s likeness for his campaign. His team recently published a post on X (formerly Twitter) with the text “Calling all Swifties for Trump” along with a photo and a link to purchase a Trump-era T-shirt.
