Horrifying audio recordings from witnesses to the Georgia high school massacre reveal harrowing 911 calls during the deadly shooting

Georgia state authorities have released harrowing audio recordings of emergency calls from the day of the Apalachee High School shooting.

According to Fox News, Barrow County Emergency Services began receiving numerous calls at around 10:20 a.m. about the tragic shooting that left two teachers and two students dead.

The footage shows the terror that erupted when 14-year-old Colt Gray opened fire on September 4.

The calls came from horrified parents of students at Apalachee High School and surrounding schools, as well as from school staff.

One panicked caller said: “My daughter is calling me crying. Someone is going ‘boom, boom, boom, boom.'”

However, due to the large number of calls, there were longer waiting times.

A man who called after reading text messages from his girlfriend was put on hold for over 10 minutes, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

He said: “She hears people screaming outside, so I don’t know if those are officers in the building or that – I don’t know.”

Many of the recorded 911 calls cannot be released under Georgia law because they contain “the language or screams of minors,” according to a letter obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.

The calls continued to the neighboring county’s call center as parents desperately searched for answers.

“We have a very delicate situation at Apalachee High School right now. We are receiving a lot of calls,” a staff member responded.

According to the Associated Press, more than 500 radio messages between rescue workers were also released.

CNN has obtained recordings of the radio emergency and the incident logs.

An officer shouted: “Active shooter!”

In another recording, an officer can be heard saying that a child is on the phone with his parents and “they are in the art room, locked up.”

The shooter’s disturbing family history was brought to light, including the criminal past of his mother, Marcee, who has a history of drug use, domestic violence, fraud and property damage.

Gray’s father, Colin, was charged with double murder in connection with his son’s shooting.

He bought his son the AR-15 that was allegedly used in the shooting, took him on hunting trips and called the 14-year-old a “wimp,” according to relatives.

Gray is being charged as an adult in the shooting.

According to CNN, this shooting was the 45th school shooting in 2024 and the deadliest since the shooting at Convent School in Nashville in March 2023.
