Snowmelt and rain could cause the water level to rise again

Upper Austria. It is getting warmer again, the snow on the mountains will also melt. Tomorrow, Monday, it is expected to rain even more. It is difficult to predict how this will affect the Inn, Traun and Enns rivers in particular.

Due to the decreasing rainfall, the water levels on Upper Austria’s main waterways, the Salzach, Inn, Danube (except Grein), Traun and Enns, will fall slightly overnight on Monday. According to meteorologists, the rainfall will be more intense again tomorrow. “The snow line will rise to 2,000 meters above sea level. The effects of the interaction of precipitation (rain) and the melting snow cover are not yet reflected in the hydrological models. From Monday afternoon, similar increases to today, Sunday, are to be expected again. Along the Inn, Traun and Enns, this could even lead to higher increases than recently due to the alpine catchment area. “Depending on the intensity of the rainfall, local flooding is also possible everywhere on small and medium-sized waterways,” reports the Hydrographic Service of the State of Upper Austria. The decisive factor will probably be how quickly the snow on the mountains melts.
