It’s not official yet. But Naomi Osaka seems to be trying out Patrick Mouratoglou as her new coach after splitting up with Wim Fissette.

Patrick Mouratoglou practiced with Naomi Osaka in Los Angeles

There are some people in the tennis world who think that Serena Williams’ success is not because of Patrick Mouratoglou, but despite her mistakes in her box. They are evil tongues. After all, Coach Mouratoglou always manages to get well-known tennis professionals on his side. Most recently it was Holger Rune, but Stefanos Tsitsipas has also trained at the academy in Nice on several occasions, and at Coco Gauff’s there are always competent people sitting next to Brad Gilbert in the trainers’ area wearing caps with the distinctive “M”.

Oh, yes: Simona Halep also tried her luck with Patrick Mouratoglou. It didn’t end well. It’s not yet clear who was to blame.

Osaka loses to Muchova in New York

Now Mouratoglou and Naomi Osaka were also seen training together on the grounds of UCLA in Los Angeles. Basically, just a few moments after the four-time Grand Slam winner announced her split from Wim Fissette. There is no doubt about the Belgian’s outstanding skills as a coach.

Naomi Osaka has delivered a few highlights in her comeback year. Like the match against Iga Swiatek at the French Open, in which she was unable to convert a match point. Or the victory against Jelena Ostapenko at the US Open. There, however, Osaka, still only 26 years old, had to play against Karolina Muchova in the second round. And the Czech was not to be trifled with in Flushing Meadows this year either.

Overall, this now puts him at 75th place in the WTA charts. This does not do justice to the expectations of former world number one players. From this perspective, things can only go uphill for Patrick Mouratoglou.
