Leeds United welcomed a familiar face to Elland Road on Saturday.

Hollywood superstar Will Ferrell was spotted in the stands at the Championship duel against Burnley.

The Anchorman and Elf actor also enjoyed it. He wore a Leeds cap and was later photographed holding up a shirt on the pitch in front of his adoring fans.

The 57-year-old great American comedian acquired a minority stake in the Yorkshire club earlier this year, joining fellow competitors, actor Russell Crowe, Olympic icon Michael Phelps and major golf champion Jordan Spieth as shareholders of 49ers Enterprises.

Ferrell is a bit of a sports nut. Not only is he a huge fan of the Los Angeles Kings ice hockey team, but he is also the co-owner of Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC and has even performed various charity and comedy stunts for several baseball teams.

Some of his famous friends have also ventured into the world of football – Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took the helm at Wrexham in 2021 and have since led the Welsh club from the National League to League One.

NFL legend Tom Brady has also joined Birmingham City’s ownership group, while his American football colleague JJ Watt invested in Burnley in 2023.

Ferrell’s investment in Leeds was confirmed in May and Saturday’s clash with the Clarets will be the first time he will be able to attend a game at their home ground, Elland Road.

The way he got there, however, had nothing to do with Hollywood: he decided to take the train.

Ferrell is no newcomer to the world of football, having attended Premier League matches at Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

He was offered the opportunity to attend the Championship play-off final at Wembley last season and watch Leeds and Southampton battle for promotion back to the top flight, but his plans to travel to London fell through.

That was probably a good thing, as Leeds lost the game 1-0 – the same result they saw Wrexham at the Home of Football in the 2022 FA Trophy Final.

Ferrell and David Beckham were both guests of Reynolds and McElhenney that day, but the Dragons suffered a defeat against Bromley.

Ferrell was asked about his love of football in 2023 after being spotted at Man City’s 3-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa.

He burst into the Sky Sports broadcast to shake hands with Roy Keane and Gary Neville and said: “I don’t really have a side here.

Former Premier League winger James McClean describes his current club Wrexham as “the most exciting project in football under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney”

“I just enjoy following all the storylines. It’s obviously a very good league.”

Well, he has a page now – let’s hope he knows the lyrics to “Marching on Together.”
