Microsoft has released a new dynamic update for Windows 11 version 24H2. The update, released under the identifier KB5043355, aims to improve the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). However, the company is currently keeping quiet about the details of the update contents.

More than just an ordinary patch

Dynamic updates are fundamentally different from regular Windows updates. They are used specifically when upgrading to a new version of Windows and are not distributed via the usual Windows Update mechanism. Instead, users can only download them manually via the Microsoft Update Catalog.

WinRE update

The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) plays a central role in resolving boot problems. Improvements in this area can therefore significantly improve system stability and recovery options in the event of an emergency and are essential.

Once a Windows 10 feature update is initiated, whether from a disk or an environment connected to the Windows Update service, the dynamic update process is one of the first steps that occurs.

Availability and compatibility

The KB5043355 update is available for both ARM64 and AMD64-based PCs and is being rolled out at the same time as the September 2024 Patch Day updates that Microsoft recently released.
