On matchday 3, FC Bayern will play away at Holstein Kiel. Coach Vincent Kompany has many options, especially offensively, against the promoted team.

Update from September 14, 5.37 p.m.: The Bayern line-up is here! And Vincent Kompany is mixing it up. Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey and Joao Palhinha are there from the start and replace Michael Olise, Mathys Tel and Aleksandar Pavlovic compared to the last Bundesliga game against Freiburg.

Kompany’s tough measure: Leon Goretzka is not in the squad! Ulreich, Sané, Dier, Davies, Müller, Laimer, Tel and Pavlovic are on the bench. There was simply no room for the midfielder, and there is no information about an injury.

Update from September 14, 12:03 p.m.: Will FC Bayern score its third win in three games? The Munich team will be guests at newly promoted Holstein Kiel on Saturday evening for the top Bundesliga match (here in the live ticker). The big question: Who will coach Vincent Kompany put in his starting eleven?

The Belgian can draw on almost all the available players in the far north. Leroy Sané will be making his debut this season. Will Bayern’s number ten be in the starting eleven? Thomas Müller is also likely to have hopes of being in the starting eleven. The veteran impressed in the first few games and was able to continue his form in Munich during the international break. Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala also arrive with the wind in their sails from the national team. And then there is the in-form Serge Gnabry and the French Kingsley Coman and Mathys Tel. Kompany is spoiled for choice for four positions.

And what about Joao Palhinha? The Portuguese had to sit on the bench in the first two Bundesliga games. Will he now make his debut in the starting eleven?

Starting eleven debut for new signing?

First report from September 13th: Kiel – From the deep south up to the far north: FC Bayern will play away at newly promoted Holstein Kiel on Saturday evening (14 September, 6.30 p.m. – all TV information here) after the international break.

There are almost exactly 700 kilometers as the crow flies between the Bavarian capital and that of Schleswig-Holstein. And there is also a big gap between the teams in terms of sport. While the record champions from Munich started with two wins, Kiel suffered two defeats at the start of their first ever Bundesliga season.

Actually, it’s also a mandatory task for Vincent Kompany’s team. But which formation will the Belgian choose for the duel against the “Storks”? “Every player is a candidate for the starting eleven at FC Bayern,” he said at the press conference before the game.

Bayern line-up against Holstein Kiel: Kimmich as right-back again?

Kompany has all players on board except for the long-term injured Daniel Peretz, Hiroki Ito and Josip Stanisic. National player Leroy Sané is also back in the squad after his pubic bone injury and could make his comeback against Kiel. This gives FCB another offensive weapon – but things will also be interesting in defense.

In the 2-0 win against Freiburg before the international break, Joshua Kimmich played at right-back again, although he actually looks to be in midfield in Kompany. It is quite possible that the international player will play on the right again against Kiel. Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim are likely to play in the middle again. The shaky duo recently made an improved impression against Freiburg, as did Raphaël Guerreiro on the left side of defense.

Bayern lineup against Holstein Kiel: Palhinha hopes to be in the starting eleven?

Kimmich’s move to the right could also mean that Joao Palhinha will make his first appearance in the starting eleven. So far, the Portuguese has only started from the bench. If Kompany – unlike against Freiburg – plays with two central midfielders again, Palhinha could slide into the position next to Aleksandar Pavlović, who recently shone with a goal for the national team and is also likely to be a starter against Kiel.

If Kompany were to go back to the tried and tested 4-2-3-1 system, four positions would need to be filled in the attack – two of which are likely to have their place secured. Harry Kane is set to play in the centre of the attack and comes with the wind in his sails from the English national team, for whom he scored twice against Finland. Jamal Musiala will also probably play from the start after his strong performances for the DFB team. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund recently vehemently defended Musiala against criticism from Didi Hamann.

Bayern line-up against Holstein Kiel:

Several players are fighting for the remaining two starting eleven positions – even though it would probably be too early for Sané to play from the start. Thomas Müller could move into the first eleven after some good performances, and Musiala would then probably move to the left. On the right side, new signing Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry are fighting for a starting place.

With Kingsley Coman and youngster Mathys Tel, Kompany has even more options for the wing positions. It would also be conceivable to use a 4-1-4-1 system, as was the case against Freiburg, in order to be even more flexible against Kiel’s expected deep-lying offense. In view of the upcoming English week with the first Champions League game against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday (September 17), fans can be excited to see what Kompany has thought of for the starting eleven.

The expected Bayern line-up: Neuer – Kimmich, Kim, Upamecano, Guerrëiro – Palhinha, Pavlović – Gnabry, Müller, Musiala – Kane. (LuHa)
