UGA cornerback arrested after being caught going over 100 miles per hour

Daniel Jeremy Harris (Athens-Clarke County Sheriff’s Office)

Georgia State University cornerback Daniel Jeremy Harris was arrested Thursday by Athens-Clarke County police on five counts of misdemeanor traffic violations.

Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Daniel Jeremy Harris was arrested Thursday for reckless driving and four other charges.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, Harris was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an expired temporary registration along the Athens Perimeter near College Station Road around 8 p.m. when an officer clocked him going over 100 mph. The Jeep was passing other vehicles in the rain, according to the report.

After Harris was asked to get out, the officer noticed that the seat belt in the driver’s seat was still fastened. Police therefore assumed that Harris had not been wearing his belt while driving.

The report also states that the Jeep had illegal tint.

After the officer ran a background check on the license plate, police reported that the plate had been “transferred” and the vehicle had no insurance coverage.

Harris was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail and charged with reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, unregistered vehicle, no insurance and window tint violation.

The vehicle was confiscated.

Harris was released from prison on bail that same evening.

According to the SEC’s student-athlete availability report, Harris was not listed as unavailable for Saturday night’s game against the Kentucky Wildcats. It was not immediately clear whether or not he would be on the field.
