Eva Lys impresses and surprises on her way to the semifinals in Monastir – but there the tennis player is stopped by an illness.

Monastir – Tennis player Eva Lys missed the final at the WTA tournament in Monastir, Tunisia. The 22-year-old from Hamburg had to give up in the semifinal against Briton Sonay Kartal when the score was 1:5 in the first set due to illness. The match lasted just 22 minutes.

“A semifinal is the worst time to give up, but unfortunately I got sick here in Monastir.” “What a sad end to my good week here, but sometimes life is painful,” Lys wrote on the X platform: “Thank you for the great support, I will make it to a final of a WTA tournament one day.”

On her way to the semifinals of the hard court tournament in the 250 category, the world number 126 surprised everyone with a three-set victory against the number one seeded Belgian Elise Mertens. dpa
