How to watch Indiana vs. UCLA: Time, TV/Live Stream, Key Storylines for Week 3 Game

The UCLA Bruins (1-0) host their first conference game since joining the Big Ten this year, while the Indiana Hoosiers (2-0) come to Los Angeles for the first football game between these two schools. This will be the first game in which one of the existing Big Ten schools travels west to play a conference game against one of the new Big Ten schools. Live coverage begins Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC and peacock. Read on to learn how to follow the game and what the major storylines are.

Indiana

The Indiana Hoosiers have had a solid start to the season under their new head coach Curt Cignettiwho joined the program after five successful seasons at James Madison. Cignetti posted a 52-9 record at JMU and will look to bring his winning streak to an Indiana program that has had just three winning seasons since 1995 (2007, 2019, 2020). Over the last three seasons, Indiana went 9-27, the worst winning percentage in the Big Ten during that time period. Cignetti has never had a losing record in 13 seasons as head coach.

Cignetti’s staff includes seven members of his JMU team, including OC Michael Shanahan and DC Bryant HainesHe also brought 13 players from JMU through the transfer portal, some of whom have already proven to be key contributors for Indiana. Linebacker Aiden Fisher leads the Big Ten with 21 tackles and DL Michael Kamara has recorded three sacks in its first two games. Indiana’s defense will likely be a key to the win at UCLA, which struggled on offense in Week 1 (and had a bye in Week 2).

The Hoosiers opened the season with a 31-7 win over FIU and then beat FCS opponent Western Illinois 77-3. In that win over Western Illinois, Indiana set new single-game records for points (77) and total yards (701). Although still relatively untested, Indiana’s offense showed potential with Kurtis Rourke under the middle and Judge Ellison Adding rush production out of the backfield.

University of California

UCLA is playing its first conference game since moving from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten in the offseason. Like Indiana, the Bruins also have a new head coach – DeShaun Foster took over the program in February after serving as the team’s assistant head coach and running backs coach last year. Foster follows Chip Kellywho left the team after six seasons to become offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

The Bruins had a successful defense in 2023 and finished the season in 10th place^th in the FBS in total defense, with 301.5 yards per game. But the core of that defense has moved to the NFL, including sack leader Laiatu Latin and defensive players Gabriel And Grayson MurphyUCLA also has its fourth defensive coordinator in as many years – D’Anton Lynn left the band after just one season for the same position at USC and left the job Ikaika Malloe. In Malloe’s first game as full-time defensive coordinator on August 31^st In Hawaii, the Bruins finished their 16-13 victory with two interceptions, five sacks, two forced fumbles and eleven tackles for loss.

Despite the defensive turnover, the offense is probably the bigger problem in Westwood. In Week 1 in Hawai’i, the Bruins trailed 10-0 at halftime and won 16-13 with a field goal in the final minute. The offense – under two-time Super Bowl-winning coordinator Eric Bieniemy – struggled to get things going. QB Ethan Garbers completed just 50% of his passes and threw two interceptions while the team rushed for 71 total yards. The Bruins need to get their offense on a better trajectory to keep up with Indiana’s improving defense.
