Not far from the state capital, this new ORF-III production goes on a journey of discovery to the idyllic green alpine pastures of Lower Austria – and shows that the most beautiful alpine pastures in Austria are not only to be found in the west. The Wechsel region with its Schwaigen and the high alpine pastures around the Ötscher offer breathtaking views, peace and seclusion. The unique panorama towards the Ötscher can be felt high above the tree line on the Dürrensteinalm. In the Wechsel region, the Kranichberger Schwaig awaits, which attracts numerous visitors with its summer toboggan run. The Schwarzalm is characterized by a unique population of marmots. Numerous other alpine pastures are recorded in loving detail in this documentary, impressively showing the diversity of the region. Through the unique fauna and flora of the alpine pastures, as well as the people who manage them, each of these alpine pastures tells its own story and invites viewers to become part of this unique heritage.
