Delhi police file complaint over fireworks outside Arvind Kejriwal’s residence

New Delhi: Delhi Police have filed a complaint over the setting off of firecrackers outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in north Delhi’s Civil Lines to welcome him after his release from jail, officials said on Saturday.

In a bid to curb air pollution this coming winter, the Delhi government on Monday announced a ban on the production, sale and use of firecrackers in the capital.

An official said that a case has been registered at Civil Lines police station against unknown persons under Section 223 (disobedience of order of public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for setting off firecrackers outside the official residence of the Chief Minister.

After his release from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, firecrackers were set off outside the Prime Minister’s residence.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kejriwal in a corruption case filed with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the excise policy case in Delhi.

He spent more than five months in Tihar Jail.
