“The team has shown morale” – Leogang defeats Maria Alm after being behind – Football Salzburg – Results, tables and scorers from all Salzburg leagues.

The last competitive win for Leogang against Maria Alm in front of a home crowd was on May 23, 2009. In the 3:1 win, players such as Elias Bierbaumer (2), Faruk Klokic and Gerhard Fabian were on the scoresheet. Just over 15 years later, SC Leogang was able to end the curse despite being behind at halftime. “The team showed morale. The fact that we came back from being behind makes the derby victory even more valuable,” beamed Florian Grill, Leogang’s sporting director, after a real feat of strength.

The Uzunov collective got off to a flying start in their home Steinberg Stadium and initially came close to taking the lead. Mario Lucic scored two missed goals. The Leogang striker failed to score once on the double post, and once he headed an ideal cross over the bar. To the chagrin of the home fans, the score was 0:1 instead of 1:0 in the 26th minute: A long free kick from the left found the unchallenged Alexander Gadenstätter, who headed it over home keeper Luca Derler to give Almer the lead. “We concede too many goals from set pieces – a tiresome issue,” grumbled Grill, who waited in vain for his team’s response before the break. “The game just plodded along.”

After the break, Grill couldn’t shake the feeling that “Oima” would extend their lead. “They were closer to 0:2 than we were to 1:1.” After Tobias Hutter had wasted a great chance, Leogang equalized almost out of nowhere when substitute Tobias Haitzmann expertly converted a cross from the right (69th minute). “A goal at the right time,” grinned Grill, who was celebrating again just three minutes later. Mario Lucic dribbled from the left towards the Alm box and scored with a great shot to put them 2:1 ahead (72nd minute). As if that wasn’t enough, Lucic added another in the finish. A blocked cross pass luckily flew into the legs of the incoming match winner, the rest was a formality – 3:1 (86th minute). “Especially after the defeat in St. Johann, it was important that we won. Otherwise we would have been in danger of slipping into the middle of the table,” said Grill, who spoke of a happy outcome: “At the end of the day, Maria Alm would have deserved a point.”
