Ganpati Visarjan: Central and Western Railway announce special night trains; Full timetable here

The ten-day Ganeshotsav celebrations in Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra attract huge crowds every year. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated on September 7. To ease the festive rush, Central Railway and Western Railway have announced several special suburban train services for the late evening hours.

These trains will be operated on both main and port routes to handle the increased passenger flow during Ganpati Visarjan.

The ten-day Ganpati celebrations end on September 17 with Visarjan, the immersion of the Ganesh statues.

Here is the complete list of special Ganpati Visarjan trains announced by Central Railway and Western Railway.

Central Railway

A total of 22 special night suburban trains have been announced to run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kalyan/Thane to facilitate commuters on the main line.

On the Harbour Line, special suburban trains will run between CSMT and Panvel on the night of September 17-18 to support the Ganpati immersion processions.

These special trains stop at all the stations between CSMT and Kalyan/Thane/Panvel and provide comprehensive service to the followers of Hinduism.

Here is a breakdown of the schedule:

On the nights of 14/15, 15/16 and 17/18 September the following special trains will run on the main route:

Downline

  1. CSMT-Kalyan Special 1: The Train Departure is at 1:40 am, arrival is at 3:10 am.
  2. CSMT-Thane Special 1: The train departs at 2:30 am and arrives at 3:30 pm.
  3. CSMT-Kalyan Special 3: The train departs at 3:25 am and arrives at 4:55 am.

Upstream line

  1. Kalyan-CSMT Special 2: The train departs at 00:05 and arrives at 1:30.
  2. Thane-CSMT Special 2: The train departs at 1:00 am and arrives at 2:00 am.
  3. Thane-CSMT Special 4: The departure time is 2:00 a.m., the arrival time is 3:00 a.m.

The special trains on the Harbour Line on the night of 17 to 18 September will run as follows:

Downline

  1. CSMT-Panvel Special 1: The train departs at 1:30 am and arrives at 2:50 am.
  2. CSMT-Panvel Special 3: The train departs at 2:45 am and arrives at 4:05 am.

Upstream line

  1. Panvel-CSMT Special 2: The train departs at 1:00 am and arrives at 2:20 am.
  2. Panvel-CSMT Special 4: Departure time is 1:45 am and arrival time is 3:05 am.

Western Railway

The Western Railway has also announced that it will operate four pairs of additional special trains on the occasion of Ganpati immersion. These trains will run between Churchgate and Virar on the night of September 17-18 to facilitate the travel of the devotees.

As per the official timetable, these trains depart from Churchgate at 1.15 am, 1.55 am, 2.25 am and 3.20 am and arrive in Virar at 2.50 am, 3.32 am, 4.02 am and 4.58 am respectively.

On the return journey, the special trains will leave Virar at 00:15, 00:45, 01:40 and 03:00 and arrive at Churchgate station at 01:52, 02:22, 03:15 and 04:40.
