MMA spectacle Jungwirth vs. Eckerlin: Knockout action LIVE on RTL+

Who will be the “King of GerMMAny”? On October 12th, the ultimate martial arts spectacle between German superstars Christian Eckerlin and Christian Jungwirth will decide who is the king in the cage. Around 60,000 spectators are expected to attend the superlative fight night in Frankfurt – the largest mixed martial arts event in Europe. RTL+ has secured the rights to OKTAGON 62 and will be there live from 4:30 p.m. In addition to the main fight, MMA fans can look forward to a total of eleven fights and a breathtaking halftime show.

“Tomorrow we’ll see the TV sensation of the decade with the boxing match between Raab and Halmich. RTL+ will then continue with even tougher martial arts. With OKTAGON 62 we’ll be presenting the biggest mixed martial arts event Europe has ever seen. Viewers can expect a breathtaking show that perfectly complements our diverse sports portfolio of American football, soccer and motorsport. Trigger warning: definitely not for the faint of heart!” said Inga Leschek, CCO RTL Germany.

Pavol Neruda, co-founder of OKTAGON MMA: “We are delighted to be starting a new chapter in martial arts in Germany together with RTL. Just as previous generations revered boxing, today’s OKTAGON MMA fighters are the new heroes. They inspire people to be athletic, persevere and have the fighting spirit that lies within each and every one of us. Together we want to present these values and leave a lasting mark on German sports culture.

The focus of the fight night is the eagerly awaited duel between the “King of Frankfurt” Christian Eckerlin (fight record: 16-6) and Christian “The Kelt” Jungwirth from Stuttgart (fight record: 15-8). Eckerlin, one of the biggest stars of the international MMA scene, is the welterweight and middleweight champion of several German organizations. With Christian Jungwirth, he will meet a real crowd favorite with a big fighting heart in the octagon.

After spectacular victories at “OKTAGON MMA”, Düsseldorf-based Kerim Engizek (fight record: 20-4) also gets the chance of a lifetime: He fights for the middleweight title against current champion Patrik Kincl (fight record 28-10).

Mixed martial arts is one of the most exciting and fastest growing sports in the world, combining different fighting styles such as kickboxing, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and boxing. Fights are fought according to a strict set of rules. Fights are decided either by “tapping out” (submission) or KO or TKO. If the fight goes beyond the set distance (normal fights: 3 rounds of 5 minutes each/title fights 5 rounds of 5 minutes each) the three judges make the decision.
