Tri-State Fair & Rodeo continues to emphasize safety ahead of opening

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Safety continues to be the number one priority at the Texas Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, and they are partnering with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office to ensure the public feels welcome and safe at the fairgrounds this year.

The fairgrounds have implemented a clear bag police. Organizers say anything brought into the fair must be in a clear bag. Diaper bags or other medical items are permitted, but will be searched at the entrance.

The area surrounding the exhibition grounds is also monitored by officials.

“Please come to the command truck. We are in the same location that we have been in for probably 10 to 15 years,” said Lt. Steven Orcutt of the Potter County Sheriff’s Office. “We have a large mobile command truck that will be there for all nine days of the fair. We will have officers and firefighters there that can take care of any medical issues that may arise and any police-related issues.”

This year too, visitors must go through metal detectors before entering the trade fair.

“Here at the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, our top priority is to make sure everyone feels safe here. As in years past, we have security guards and are enforcing our rules at the entrances, such as the clear bag policy. We also have metal detectors this year,” said Lauren Fritzler, Marketing and PR Manager for the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo.

Organizers say that after 10:30 p.m. there will be no entry and all gates will remain closed. The fair will remain open until midnight. To purchase tickets, click here.

The gates open tomorrow at 11am and the fair runs until September 21st.
