The death of a bartender from Montevideo remains unsolved almost a year later

According to police, Mitch Twite was found dead with a stab wound on the lawn in front of the Montevideo post office almost a year ago.

Twite, 69, was a longtime bartender at a bar in downtown Montevideo in western Minnesota.

Earlier this month, Montevideo Police Chief Ken Schule wrote in an email to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, among other things: “…interviews are still pending, but we hope that the investigation will be completed soon, but that depends on these people.”

When Twite was found on September 18, investigators said there was no known threat to the public but did not elaborate.

Twite’s family told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that they continue to wait to learn what happened to their loved one.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was involved in the case along with the Montevideo police.

“I am deeply saddened to lose him so suddenly and tragically,” wrote Tami Moe, Twite’s sister. “I am confident that BCA will resolve his death soon.”

In Twite’s obituary, relatives wrote: “If you have any information, please contact the Montevideo police.”

Family, friends and the community of Montevideo continue to wait for the answer: “What happened to Mitch?”
