SC will hear motion for result transparency and normalisation process today

The Supreme Court will today hear a petition filed by 19 NEET PG 2024 aspirants raising concerns over transparency of results and normalisation process. The petition filed by Ishika Jain, Kiran Kumar Patil, Tanmoy Deshmukh and 16 others was filed on September 7 under diary number 41088/2024. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Misra and Justice JB Pardiwala will hear this case.

In their petition, the students urged the Supreme Court to direct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to release key answer sheets, raw and pre-normalized results, normalized results and the official answer keys for both the shifts of the NEET PG 2024 exam.

In addition, the applicants have demanded suspension of the counselling process for NEET PG 2024 until these concerns are addressed. They also demand the option of revaluation for those who are dissatisfied with their results. The applicants suggest that measures such as publication of answer keys, question papers and revaluation options should become standard practice for future NEET PG exams to ensure greater transparency.

The NEET PG 2024 results, announced by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 23, sparked concern among students due to unexpectedly low rankings. After comparing their results with unofficial answer keys, many candidates raised suspicions that there was some discrepancy in the ranking. In response, on September 4, candidates officially demanded that the NBEMS release the official answer key and set up a grievance portal to address their concerns.

As the consultation process approaches, candidates are under pressure to find a timely solution and have actively requested NBEMS to provide clarity on the results.

Specifically, to participate in the counselling process, candidates need to score at least 50 percent to qualify for counselling, while candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories need at least 40 percent.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages NEET PG counselling for 50 per cent of All India Quota (AIQ) and 100 per cent of seats in recognized Central Universities, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and PG DNB courses and facilitates admission to MD, MS, Diploma, PG DNB and MDS programmes.
