Barricaded shooting suspect in custody; 2 injured

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Police confirmed that a shooting suspect responsible for an hours-long standoff is now in custody.

According to police, the suspect had barricaded himself in a Deerfield Township apartment unit at the corner of Auburn Lane and S Reindeer Road.

According to officials, the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. Two people were injured. Their condition is currently unknown.

HCPD special operations teams, SWAT teams, negotiation teams and drone teams assisted on site.

According to protocols, the HCPD said the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement would investigate the incident.

“We appreciate the patience of community members who remained in their homes, avoided the area or complied with evacuations during this incident,” the HCPD said in a statement.

Public safety teams including HCPD, Surfside Beach Police Department, Horry County Fire Rescue and SLED are working to reopen the roads.
