Shearer predicts results for Tottenham and Arsenal plus more Ten Hag ‘noise’ in Man Utd tie

Alan Shearer expects Man Utd to draw with Southampton and he has predicted the outcome of the north London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal.

Erik ten Hag has arrived under enormous pressure in the last two weeks after Manchester United went into the international break with just one win from three Premier League games at the start of the season.

The last game before the international break was a Clear 0-3 defeat against arch-rival Liverpool with the Red Devils showing the second best performance for most of the game.

And Shearer cannot imagine their luck changing much as the Newcastle legend demands a draw from struggling Southampton at the start of the season.

Shearer said The Metro: “This is an important game for both sides. Southampton need to start picking up points, especially now it looks like Leicester are not going to get any points deducted.”

“Southampton have struggled to put the ball in the net and take the chances they have created, so when they get them they need to start taking them. They need to improve massively in that regard.

“I think Man United have been average so far this season, which is why there is so much talk about Ten Hag. So this is an important game for both clubs and could have huge implications in the future.

“There will be so much noise if Man United don’t win this game, especially after the start to the season that Southampton have had. If Man United go there and don’t win, or worse, get beaten, then the noise about the job and everything else at the club will go up a notch or two. I’m predicting a draw.”

Tottenham had a mixed start to the new season under Ange Postecoglou, while Arsenal took seven out of nine points and now finally want to snatch the Premier League title from Man City.

And Shearer explained why he thinks the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham There could be a draw on Sunday.

Shearer added: “The North London derby is a big deal in the Premier League. Derby games are great because you can get away with a little more, the referees are a little more lenient and know what that means for managers, players and fans.”

“If Martin Odegaard is out, it’s obviously bad news for Arsenal, but very good news for Tottenham because Odegaard and Rice are two of Arsenal’s heavyweights. Going into a game of this magnitude without them would be tough for Arsenal.

“Hopefully Dominic Solanke will be deemed fit for this game as it would be a great way to introduce himself to Tottenham fans if he could make the difference in his first derby game and make a big statement in a game of this magnitude.

“The key to this game for me is whether Spurs will improve their attacking positions. That is something Ange Postecoglou will want to work on so that they have more of a killer instinct when they have the ball because from the evidence I have seen they need to improve massively.

“These games are always very close and given the potential injury reports for Arsenal, there may not be much difference between the two teams, so I’m tempted to go for a draw in this one.”
