Damar Hamlin is named starting safety for the Bills’ 2024 season opener

Damar Hamlin is named starting safety for the Bills’ 2024 season opener

Since being drafted by Buffalo in 2021, Hamlin has made 13 starts and appeared in 34 games. The safety totaled 88 tackles, six tackles for loss, three quarterback hits and one and a half sacks during the season (2022) in which he made 13 starts.

McDermott describes Hamlin’s journey from recovering to starting driver as incredible to witness.

“It’s one thing to recover from a torn ACL or a broken bone. It’s another thing to recover from what he’s been through,” McDermott said. “Not to mention that he chose to play football, contact football in full gear at the NFL level. I don’t think I need to say anything else. It’s unbelievable.”

“I believe God’s hands have always been on Damar and his family and will continue to be. We are just extremely proud and grateful to see what he has been through and where he is now.”

Sunday will be Hamlin’s first start since the 2022 season.
