The program at the CSD in Dortmund will be so colorful

Things will be colorful and loud in Dortmund this weekend: Christopher Street Day is approaching. Around 3,000 people want to take to the streets for the rights of the LGBTIQ* community.

On Saturday, many thousands of people will take to the streets in Dortmund to protest for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans, intersex and other queer people (LGBTIQ). This year’s Christopher Street Day will take place under the motto “Pride Matters – Love is the only alternative”. Around 3,000 participants are expected, according to the police.

With this motto, the organizers want to point out how important it is to stand up for yourself. It is also a sign against the AfD, as stated in a statement. The “supposedly political alternative” has nothing to offer queer people, or our society.

It starts at 1 p.m. in the form of a procession with several floats from the main station through Dortmund city center. The CSD city festival then starts at 2 p.m. on Friedensplatz. A varied stage program, an information mile and catering invites you to celebrate, linger and talk to the LGBTIQ* community. The event ends at 10 p.m.

As a result, the Dortmund police are expecting temporary and in some cases massive traffic disruptions around the city center and are asking all road users to avoid the city center area and, where possible, to use public transport.

To protect the participants, the Dortmund police will be on duty with a clearly visible presence, the authority announced. “We will take consistent action against any possible form of disturbance, assess it under criminal law and prosecute it,” said police director Ralf Ziegler. Participation in the CSD must take place with a feeling of the greatest possible security, and the police are responsible for this.
