Stefan Raab against Regina Halmich

Cologne – On Saturday the big boxing event (from 8.15 pm at RTL) between Stefan Raab (57) and former world champion Regina Halmich (47). An unfair match that should never happen, says Maria Weller (71), widow of former boxer René Weller (†69).

When she thinks about the eagerly awaited fight between Raab and her friend Halmich, the 71-year-old immediately has the worst memories come flooding back.

After all, Maria Weller knows the negative effects that boxing can have. “I saw my husband die in my hands because of the many blows to the head that he received during his career,” she complains in the “BILD” newspaper.

And in fact, there are several studies that prove exactly that.

“The high impact speed of the fist of 10 m/s and more leads to compression, strains and functional brain injuries,” says the University Hospital of the Technical University of Munich.

An experience that Weller and her René unfortunately also had to go through, as the 71-year-old sadly noted: “You only notice it when it’s too late.”

Against this background, Saturday’s fight was almost a scandal, says the woman from Pforzheim.

After all, the injuries that the men would inflict on each other would be bad enough, “but boxing against a woman is unfair – no matter how good she is and how many tricks she knows!”

Nevertheless, she has hope that Halmich could send the TV entertainer to the stage.

“I wrote to her that she must avoid Raab’s blows. She retired undefeated as a professional and should not allow herself to be downgraded by someone who is drumming up trouble for her in order to gain a name for themselves,” the widow rages against the 57-year-old.

The fact that Raab is supposed to get two million euros for the event, while former world champion Halmich is only getting paid 500,000 euros, makes Weller angry. She complains: “Raab wants to beat up a woman for a million-dollar fee. That’s disgusting!”

The 71-year-old also revealed that she would not watch the fight herself. “I love Regina too much for that and it reminds me of René’s far too early death,” she said.
